World Champs Update
The past few days have been absolutely brilliant in The Gong and it is a massive credit to the organisers, local council, sponsors, volunteers and athletes. If you have never been to a World Triathlon championships you can still check it out in person or online (TriathlonLive.tv, Kayo and Fox Sports). Two days of racing to go.
This weekend’s events include the para triathlete finals, T100, Junior and Under 23 mixed relay teams and the final of the Elite Men’s and Women’s World Championship.
For our Piranha athletes they have a rest day today many will be back in action on Sunday morning for the Age Group mixed relays.
Thursday and Friday mornings have featured the Age Group athletes and every where you look is a sea of green and gold. As a spectator you realise the benefits of your athletes having a unique tri suit that makes them must easier to spot.
All of our Piranhas have now raced with Carolyn backing up after the Standard distance Aquabike event on Wednesday to do the Sprint Distance yesterday.
The rough water conditions out past the break wall on Thursday was swapped for a more manageable M shaped swim course for Friday’s sprint racing. The bike and run courses are quite challenging, technical and very hot, depending on the start times but it’s the World Champs so that’s expected.
Our Piranhas have done themselves, our club and the green and gold proud. There hasn’t been time to check all the stats (early rises, race day - racing or spectating, sleep and repeat) but just wanted to share some quick pics.
Congratulations Rory, Cas, Julie, Carolyn, Kate, Liesel, Bek, Tristan, Tim and Will. Also a couple of our ex Piranhas Kim and Jo.
