2025 WORLD TRIATHLON CHAMPIONSHIPS - WOLLONGONG - Go Piranhas Go

Over the past 12 months our members have competed in a number of qualifying events in an effort to obtain the honour of wearing the green and gold at this week’s massive World Championships. The next 5 days will be huge for some of our local Orange Piranhas. We have 10 members representing OTC in the Australian Age Group and U23 Team at the 2025 World Triathlon Championships in Wollongong.

Tomorrow kicks off with the pre race highlight - the Parade of Nations and the Opening Ceremony starting at 5pm.

Thursday morning sees the Standard Age Group Triathlon events starting at 7:45am.

Carolyn Egan starts her big 3 event program in the Aquabike Standard Distance, 1500m swim and 40km bike starting at 10:15am. Go Carolyn.

Rory Thornhill kicks off one of the biggest races of his triathlon career with a call up to the Under 23s Male Championships. It’s the 1500m swim, 40km bike and 10km run starting at 1:15pm. We wish him all the best. The U23 females race at 4:15pm. Check out details below as the U23, Juniors, T100 and Elite events are televised.

Friday sees all of our Age Group Piranhas racing in the Sprint distance - 750m swim, 20km bike and 5km run, starting at 8am.

The Junior Men’s Championship starts at 2:15pm and the Junior Female’s Championship starts at 4:15pm.

Saturday is a rest day for our Age Group Athlete’s whilst the Para Triathletes take to the course for their Championships starting at 7:30am. Juniors and U23 Mixed Relay Championships start at 12:15pm. The Pro T100 events start at 2pm and 3:45pm.

Sunday is the final day for events - the Para Triathletes and Age Group Athletes finish their Worlds champaign with the fast and furious mixed relay championships starting at 8am and 10:30am. The Mixed Relays involve each member completing a 300m swim, 5.6km bike and 1.36km run before tagging their team member.

During the afternoon they can relax and watch the Elites Finals take on the Olympic/Standard course. This is a highly anticipated and prestigious event that gathers the world’s top triathletes to compete for the ultimate title of Wollongong champion in 2025. The female Elite Final starts at 2pm and the men’s Elite Final starts at 4:15pm.

We wish all our members the very best of luck for their World events. They have trained hard and persevered over the long winter now they get to celebrate on the World stage. Have loads of fun. We are incredibly proud of you all.
